Earlier this month, Chilliwack Ringette Association teamed with ISPARC (Indigenous Sport, Physical Activity & Recreation Council), Skwah First Nation, and Ringette BC to introduce ringette to local Indigenous youth.
Three Come Try Ringette camps were held at the Sardis Sports Complex, which saw 15 youth try the sport on ice for the first time.
Volunteers, youth helpers and coaches from Chilliwack Ringette Association worked with instructors from Ringette BC to help the new players learn the game.
The new players were shooting wrist shots in no time and their skating improved in only three ice sessions.
Chilliwack Ringette is hoping to continue the program through the remainder of the season, and is looking for young adult sized equipment to lend to the participants who are between the ages of 10 and 16.
We’re looking for good quality adult-sized CSA approved helmets and ringette facemasks, adult ringette sticks, gloves, shin pads, hockey pants, and jerseys. Cash donations welcomed.
Please contact [email protected] if you would like to donate to this new program.
